Respondo vs Intercom: which customer support platform fits your team?
An honest comparison of Respondo and Intercom (now Fin) in 2026 — pricing math at real conversation volumes, AI agent, inbox, knowledge base, analytics and setup, plus what the Salesforce acquisition means for your team.
Key takeaways
- Intercom — now a company called Fin, owned by Salesforce since September 2026 — charges per seat plus $0.99 per Fin outcome, so the bill grows with both headcount and AI success.
- Respondo charges one plan price per workspace, from $79 a month billed annually, with unlimited teammates; AI replies come in a monthly pool, and extra capacity is $49 per 1,000.
- For 10 agents and 15,000 conversations a month, that's about $11,785 a month on Intercom Expert with Fin versus about $1,626 on Respondo Business — roughly 7× less.
- Intercom is deeper for complex enterprise workflows, custom reporting, phone support and Salesforce shops; Respondo fits growing SaaS teams that want AI-first support live the same day and a bill that doesn't scale with seats.
Picking a customer support platform in 2026 isn't only about features anymore. It's about pricing structure, incentive alignment, and whether the vendor's revenue grows with your success or at your expense.
Intercom has shaped modern customer support for more than a decade. In 2026 it changed twice: in May the company renamed itself Fin, after its AI agent (Intercom lives on as the name of the help desk), and in September Salesforce closed its acquisition of it. Respondo is a newer, AI-first platform built around a different pricing model: one plan price per workspace, unlimited teammates, and no per-resolution fees.
This isn't a hit piece. Intercom is a strong product that thousands of teams run successfully. But fit depends on team size, conversation volume, and growth stage, so here's an honest look at where each one works best. All prices are public list prices as of November 2026.

Quick overview
Intercom (now Fin)
Founded in 2011, Intercom pioneered the modern customer messaging category. The platform includes a shared inbox, a help center, the Fin AI agent, Copilot for human agents, outbound messaging with product tours and Series, surveys, and deep reporting. Fin launched in 2023 and quickly became the center of the business — in May 2026 the company took its name.
Intercom is well suited to larger teams with complex customer journeys, deep workflow needs, and the budget for premium capabilities.
Respondo
Respondo is an AI customer support platform built AI-first. It includes an AI agent, a shared inbox across channels, a knowledge base and help center, outbound campaigns and surveys, analytics, AI Copilot for your team, and mobile SDKs for in-app chat. The AI agent resolves about 7 out of 10 conversations end to end and hands the rest to your team with the context attached.
Respondo is built for growing SaaS teams who want modern AI support and a bill that doesn't grow with every hire.
Pricing: the biggest difference
The clearest difference between the two platforms is how they charge.
How Intercom charges
Intercom runs two meters: seats and outcomes.
- Seats. Essential, Advanced, and Expert cost $29, $85, and $132 per seat per month billed annually ($39, $99, and $139 billed monthly). Every teammate who replies to customers needs a full seat; Advanced and Expert add free "Lite" seats for limited internal collaboration.
- Fin. The AI agent costs $0.99 per outcome, on top of seats. Outcomes are mostly conversations Fin resolves, charged once per conversation.
- Copilot. AI assistance for human agents is an add-on at $29 per agent per month billed annually.
For a team of 10 agents handling 15,000 conversations a month, with Fin resolving 70% of them:
- 10 Expert seats × $139 = $1,390
- 10,500 Fin resolutions × $0.99 = $10,395
- Total: $11,785 a month, about $141,420 a year
That math gets uncomfortable fast. At 50,000 conversations a month, Fin alone comes to $34,650 a month. Growth in your business directly inflates your support software bill — and a launch, an outage, or a viral moment makes your busiest month your most expensive one.
How Respondo charges
Respondo has three plans: Startup, Growth, and Business at $99, $219, and $499 a month, or $79, $179, and $399 a month billed annually. The price is per workspace, not per seat: invite the whole team, and the bill doesn't change.
Each plan includes a monthly pool of AI requests: 1,000 on Startup, 2,500 on Growth, 7,500 on Business. One AI request is one AI reply (or one Copilot action). If you need more, a top-up of 1,000 costs $49 a month — a block you choose to add, not a meter running in the background. There is no per-resolution fee.
The same team of 10 agents with 15,000 conversations a month, on the Business plan. Assume the AI replies twice on average in every conversation, including the ones that end up with a human:
- Business plan: $499, with 7,500 AI replies included
- 30,000 AI replies − 7,500 included = 22,500 extra, so 23 top-ups × $49 = $1,127
- Total: $1,626 a month, about $19,500 a year
That's roughly 7× less. And when you hire the eleventh agent, Intercom adds $139 a month; Respondo adds nothing.
Monthly bill at different conversation volumes
Each additional conversation adds about $0.69 to the Intercom bill (70% × $0.99) and about $0.10 to the Respondo bill (two replies at $49 per 1,000). That's why the gap holds at 6–7× across every volume in the chart.
The trade-offs, honestly. Respondo counts AI replies, not outcomes, so you also pay for AI replies in conversations that end with a human, and conversations that need many AI turns use more of the pool. The 14-day trial shows your real number before you pay anything. And for a solo founder with a few dozen conversations a month, one Intercom seat with pay-per-resolution can come out cheaper than Respondo's Startup plan. The crossover comes early, though: at list prices, one Intercom seat plus 50–60 Fin resolutions a month already costs as much as Startup.
Feature comparison
AI agent
Both platforms put an AI agent in front of the queue. Both answer from your own content and hand off to a human when they aren't sure. The real difference is what each answer costs, not whether the AI can answer.
Fin is a mature product with years in production and a broad feature set around it, including procedures and voice.
Respondo's AI agent answers from your help center, website, and Notion, keeps the conversation's context when it hands off, and resolves about 7 in 10 conversations. Auto-translation in 50+ languages is included on every plan; Intercom includes 10 AI-translated conversations per agent a month at no cost.
Copilot for your team
Intercom sells Copilot as a per-agent add-on: $29 per agent per month billed annually, or $35 monthly. For 10 agents, that's another $290–350 a month.
Respondo's AI Copilot — summarize, draft, suggest, pull from the knowledge base — is included on Growth and Business and draws from the same AI pool. Conversation summaries don't count against it.
Inbox and channels
Both platforms bring the channels most teams need into one inbox.
Intercom covers Messenger, email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, SMS, and phone, and added Telegram in July 2026. Its routing is sophisticated: assignment rules, teams, SLAs, and multi-step workflows.
Respondo covers web chat, email, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Slack, and Discord, plus in-app chat through iOS and Android SDKs. Teams, round-robin assignment, SLAs, and macros are built in, and every channel is included on every plan.
If you run phone support, Intercom has it and Respondo doesn't. If your operation depends on intricate multi-team routing, Intercom's workflow engine has more depth. If you want a clean inbox that works with sensible defaults, Respondo is faster to run.
Knowledge base
Both platforms include a knowledge base that doubles as the AI's source of truth.
Intercom's help center is highly customizable, with themes, custom domains, multilingual articles, and content analytics.
Respondo's knowledge base is more opinionated: a hosted help center plus imported sources like your website and Notion, all feeding the AI agent. From the Growth plan, a knowledge-gaps report shows which customer questions your content doesn't answer yet, and articles get version control.
Intercom gives you more design flexibility. Respondo gives you faster time to value and a tighter loop between your content and the AI.
Analytics
Intercom's reporting is one of the best in the industry: CSAT, response times, conversation topics, team performance, and a custom report builder with extensive dashboards.
Respondo's analytics focus on the metrics that drive support decisions — resolution rate, CSAT, response times, and volume by channel — as ready-made dashboards. From the Growth plan, Advanced Analytics adds AI quality, knowledge gaps, and ROI.
If your team has an analyst who lives in custom reports, Intercom wins. If you want the answers without building the reports, Respondo is more practical.
Automation and outbound
Intercom offers deep automation: Workflows with branching logic, product tours, Series, and a large app ecosystem. Its advanced outbound package, Proactive Support Plus, starts at $99 a month for 500 messages.
Respondo has a Workflows builder on the Business plan, and outbound campaigns — banners, tooltips, pop-ups, in-app messages, emails, and NPS surveys — with 20,000 to 150,000 outbound messages a month included in the plan.
For multi-product companies with many different support flows, Intercom's depth is a real advantage. For most SaaS teams, Respondo covers the core with far less setup.
Setup and migration
Intercom's basics are quick to set up, but a full rollout with workflows, routing, and integrations often takes weeks, and larger companies frequently bring in implementation partners.
Respondo is designed for self-serve setup: connect a channel, import your help content, and the AI starts answering. Most teams go live the same day.
If you're coming from Intercom, migration is free and done for you: help center articles, conversation history, macros, contacts, and tags. Intercom's API doesn't expose Series or the content of outbound campaigns, so those get rebuilt by hand. You can run both tools side by side while you evaluate.
Where each platform fits best
Choose Intercom if
- You're an enterprise with complex multi-team support operations and need deep workflow customization
- Your analytics team needs custom reports and advanced segmentation
- You run phone support alongside chat and email
- Your company runs on Salesforce and wants Fin inside Agentforce
- Product tours and in-app onboarding are central to how you grow
- You have budget flexibility and expect conversation volume to grow slowly or predictably
Choose Respondo if
- You're a growing SaaS team (5–500 employees) with rising conversation volume
- You want a bill that doesn't grow with every hire or every resolution
- You want the whole team in the inbox without paying per seat
- You'd rather get Copilot and auto-translation in the plan than as per-agent add-ons
- You want to go live quickly without implementation consultants
- You prefer AI-first defaults over configuring every rule yourself
A note on the Salesforce acquisition
Salesforce agreed to buy Fin, formerly Intercom, for about $3.6 billion in June 2026 and closed the deal on September 10, 2026. Salesforce has said it plans to bring Fin into Agentforce, its AI agent platform.
For Salesforce customers, that's good news: tighter integration with the CRM they already run. For smaller teams who chose Intercom as a standalone product, it's an open question. Acquisitions of this size usually bring changes to roadmap and packaging, and nobody outside the company knows what Fin's pricing and product direction will look like in 12–18 months. If predictability matters to you, factor that in.
Where Respondo fits
Respondo was built for teams who want modern AI customer support without paying per seat or per resolution. The platform assumes you'll grow — more conversations, more teammates, more channels — and prices accordingly: hiring costs nothing, and AI capacity comes in fixed blocks you control.
If you're a SaaS founder, Head of Support, or CX leader at a company between 5 and 500 people, Respondo gives you the AI of an enterprise platform without the enterprise pricing structure. The AI handles the repetitive majority of your queue, your team focuses on the exceptions, and your bill stays predictable as everything scales.
The 14-day free trial includes the full platform, and no credit card is required. If you're moving from Intercom, we migrate your data for free. Plans start at $79 a month billed annually, with unlimited teammates and no per-resolution fees.
